AEGON International
A world-class event with a strong heritage, in a relaxed setting

The AEGON International took place in the beautiful surroundings of Devonshire Park in Eastbourne from 11-18 June, giving top players a final chance to prepare for Wimbledon.
Sponsoring leading events like this is a key part of our partnership with British Tennis, which supports all areas of the sport.
Top-class tennis

This year's tournament boasted a top-class field, with the women's draw featuring 14 of the world's top 20 players, including current French Open champion Na Li (pictured) and runner-up Francesca Schiavone, world no.3 Vera Zvonareva and no.5 Victoria Azarenka. Venus and Serena Williams, who have won 20 Grand Slam singles titles between them, were also awarded wild cards for the event.
However, the tournament had plenty of surprises in store and in the end the final was contested by the fifth and sixth seeds, Petra Kvitova and Marion Bartoli. Bartoli won in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, in very blustery conditions after the final was held over to the Monday due to rain.

The men's line-up included former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt alongside 11 of the world's top 50, including AEGON Championships finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (pictured below) and last year's champion, Michael Llodra. The final was contested by third seed Janko Tipsarevic and unseeded Italian Andreas Seppi. Seppi was a break up in the deciding third set when Tipsarevic was forced to retire, the victory giving Seppi his first tour title.
There was also a special Legends Exhibition event on the opening Sunday and Monday of the tournament, featuring some of the all-time tennis greats. Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis and Greg Rusedski all took part.
One of Britain’s top events
Played in the idyllic setting of Devonshire Park in Eastbourne, the AEGON International offers many of the world’s top singles and doubles players a final chance to prepare for Wimbledon.
The AEGON International has an impressive history: as a premier women’s event, its past winners include Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin, Lindsay Davenport and Caroline Wozniacki. In 2009 Dmitry Tursunov of Russia became the first ever men’s champion, marking a new era for this popular event.
With this display of world-class talent, it’s no surprise the event attracts a big audience and ever-growing crowds. And the open venue makes for a relaxed atmosphere where fans can get close to the action. We’re delighted to sponsor this long-running event at such an exciting time.
AEGON: investing in the future of British tennis

As the Lead Partner of British Tennis, it’s not just the big events that we support. We’re investing in the sport at all levels, from grass roots in schools and local communities, to helping talented young players to reach their full potential and sponsoring events at all levels
