Team AEGON success

Several members of Team AEGON, the top British players selected to receive the highest level of support, have celebrated notable achievements recently.

Morgan and Pavic win Wimbledon boys' doubles title

George Morgan, winner of 2010 Orange BowlGeorge Morgan won the boys' doubles title at Wimbledon with his partner Mate Pavic of Croatia. They defeated Morgan's fellow Briton and Team AEGON player Oliver Golding and his Czech partner Jiri Vesely in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, in front of a big crowd on Court 1.

After the win, Morgan (pictured right at the National Tennis Centre earlier this year) commented: 'It was the best feeling playing on Court 1 and winning a tight match against two really great players.'

Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins reached the quarter-finals of the men's doubles event, the first all-British pairing to reach the last eight for 18 years. They eventually lost to Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya in five sets.

Elena Baltacha and Laura Robson both reached the second round of the ladies' singles this year. Baltacha fought a very close battle with 20th seed Shuai Peng for a place in the third round, taking the opening set and holding breaks of serve in the decider, but her Chinese opponent kept up the pressure to come through 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 and avoid a big upset.

17-year-old Laura Robson faced a huge challenge in fifth seed Maria Sharapova, but belied the 200 ranking places between them as she raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. Sharapova battled back to take it in a tie-break and then proved too strong in the second, winning 7-6, 6-3, but Robson showed much promise for the future.

Heather Watson moves into the top 100

Heather Watson of Team AEGON

Following Heather Watson’s fantastic run to reach the third round of the AEGON Classic, after winning her first grand slam match at the French Open, she moved into the top 100 for the first time in the world rankings. Team AEGON player Watson (pictured) is the youngest player inside the top 100. This is astonishing progress for Watson given she was outside the top 500 18 months ago.

Her grass-court form looked as though it might extend into Wimbledon when she took the first set confidently against Mathilde Johansson in her first-round match, but an elbow injury hampered her and she eventually lost 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.

James Ward reaches semi-finals of AEGON Championships

James Ward championships

Team AEGON player and British No.2 James Ward (pictured) caused a major upset in the AEGON Championships by reaching the semi-finals after beating world-class players such as world No.14 Stanislas Wawrinka, last year's champion Sam Querrey and Adrian Mannarino of France.

He put up a good fight in the semi-final before finally being beaten by the No.5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It was an outstanding achievement for Ward, following up on his run to the quarter-finals at the AEGON International last year.

Elena Baltacha wins the AEGON Nottingham Challenge

British No.1 Elena Baltacha secured her first title of the year with a 7-5 6-3 defeat of Czech Petra Cetkovska in the AEGON Nottingham Challenge.

The final had to be moved indoors because of wet conditions. Baltacha, who hadn't lost a set throughout the whole tournament, played a strong game to beat Cetkovska, ranked 92 in the world.
