AEGON GB Fed Cup team has mixed fortunes in Portugal

Despite some good wins, the AEGON GB Fed Cup Team were unable to secure a play-off place in the latest Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 tie in Portugal.

The team included Anne Keothavong, who was making her first return to competitive play following a six-month break to recuperate from a knee injury. Alongside her were two fellow members of Team AEGON, Elena Baltacha and Katie O’Brien, plus doubles specialist Sarah Borwell.

In the round-robin stages, they surged to a 3-0 victory over their first group opponents, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and also defeated Belarus 2-1. However, defeat to an in-form Austrian side meant Austria went on to win their group and a place in the play-offs for promotion to the World Group.
